The Capability Statement Cheat Sheet | Business Plans

Figuring out how to write your Capability Statement can be a point of confusion. You have to first have a clear idea on every detail of your company and how it functions.

What is a Capability statement?

A capability statement is essentially your cover letter for possible leads for clients and future employees. It’s the back of your play card, showing your strengths and specialities, how you function as a management unit and how your services or work can be perfect for the reader.

To make the task of writing your statement a lot easier, we have devised a capability statement template that you can refer to and use as a cheat sheet when writing your capability statement.

Points to make in a Capability Statement

●Introduction

This is essentially your mission statement. This covers your philosophy towards your business and industry and how you choose to look at your work. This is the first thing they will read, so make sure to make this a winner.

●Experience

Your relevant experience and what kind of services you provide to your clients. Mention exactly what the tiers of your services are and the clients you’ve catered to. You can write this along with mentioning the kind of sectors and industries you’ve worked with.

●Awards and Recognition

It doesn’t hurt to flex a bit. In this section, mention your notable achievements in your industry along with any details that you think might add value to your professionalism as a business.

●Responsibility as a business

Your acknowledgements regarding your social responsibilities as a business and how you want to impact your surroundings and industry through your work.

●Management Styles

A brief description of your hierarchy and styles of management with your employees. This is an important factor for potential employees to understand how pipeline works.

●International Ties

If you have any relevant experience with international companies or clients, it would be worthwhile mentioning it to boost your hiring potential.

It is important to keep the statement clear and condensed. This should ideally work out to be a maximum of 2-3 pages.

Keep writing and rewriting this and come back to this format to make sure you are on track with your statement. It is easy to include information that may be irrelevant, especially when you’re talking about a business that you have helped build.

When writing this statement make sure to keep your target audience in mind. It’s safe to keep different versions of the capability statement depending on who you are sending it out to. You’d have to use different language depending on whether it’s a potential employee or client.
